Eric’s Impressive Acting Resumé

Hans-Jörg Gudegast, known to the world as Eric Braeden, was born on April 3, 1941, in Germany; he eventually made the journey to the United States as a young adult.

During his initial twenty years in America, he launched his television career, landing early roles in shows such as Combat!, 12 O’Clock High, and Mission: Impossible.

One of his breakout performances was as Captain Hans Dietrich in The Rat Patrol, appearing the length of the series-under his real name, Hans Gudegast.

Following that success, he featured in notable series like Hawaii Five-O, The Young Rebels, Mannix, Gunsmoke, Wonder Woman, Kojak, and CHiPs.

But his longest lasting role would be the one that he took in in 1980, the one that would make him a household name-as Eric Braeden.

The Birth Of “The Mustache” Victor Newman

In 1980, Braeden embarked on one of his most significant roles, portraying Victor Newman initially, this character was meant to appear for just a few months.

But his popularity led Braeden to continue in the role for decades, while  also making appearances in primetime television and at least one film.

Throughout his career, he has guest-starred in various shows, including Murder, She Wrote, The Nanny, and How I Met Your Mother. Additionally, he played the role of first-class passenger John Jacob Astor IV in the 1997 blockbuster Titanic.

Braeden has faced challenges, such as losing his home in LA wildfires-his first close call,  during his childhood in Germany, he survived the tragic sinking of the MV Wilhelm Gustloff.

Fans Want To Know If Eric Plans To Retire

Throughout his extensive career, Braeden has faced speculation regarding his potential retirement-in a conversation with TV Insider earlier this February, he reflected on his long tenure as Victor.

Braeden expressed his passion for the show and the character, stating, “I love the show and I love playing the character; he is self-made; he is suspicious; he’s tough; he’s hard.

But he’s also vulnerable and he wants family more than anything because he didn’t have it growing up in an orphanage-it’s difficult for Victor to trust.

And this is all inherent in the groundwork that [Y&R’s co-creator] Bill Bell laid.” He also indicated that he would continue in the role for as long as the soap opera would have him.

How Much Is Eric Braeden Worth?

Regarding  his years on Y & R, he noted, “There were definitely moments during negotiations when I thought, ‘That’s it-time to say goodbye,’ but  everything always works out in the end.” He added, “The actors I worked with in the ’60s, both on television and in films, are either retired or have sadly passed on; I’m a tenacious person. I’m still here.”

Despite this, Braeden’s remarkable career has earned him numerous honors, including multiple Daytime Emmy nominations over the years.

His role as Victor  won him a Daytime Emmy in 1998; furthermore, Braeden’s thriving career has also resulted in substantial financial success.

According to Celebrity Net Worth, his estimated net worth is approximately $20 million, although his current earnings remain unknown.
