Y&R Spoilers: Alan’s Gaslighting Continues – Sharon and Phyllis Turn Tables on Kidnapper

The Young and the Restless spoilers document that Alan Laurent (Christopher Cousins) fled Genoa City, Wisconsin.

He wants to keep the ruse alive and must believe that time away from Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland) will allow a reset.

Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) and Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) survived the kidnapping through the sheer force of their combined wills. But they have been psychologically impacted, as their recent commiseration sessions confirmed.

Both ladies are determined to carry their new outlook on life and each other forward. Their new threshold approach will include using Alan as a source of intended mental health advice.

Sharon Newman Takes The Lead

Sharon had a very encouraging conversation with Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland). Case’s character has no way of knowing it, but her comments about Alan being the key to solving this mystery are profound.

Of course, Traci faces the horror of realizing that all the odd texts Alan received on his phone seemingly match what Sharon described. The kidnapping events at the abandoned psychiatric clinic included key points that Traci recalls seeing.

Alan received security breach alerts, which made Traci very concerned. But Sharon’s description of her and Phyllis being gassed when they were trying to escape precisely matched a gas-related text that Traci remembers seeing.

Phyllis Summers Wills Herself Forward

Phyllis is on board with meeting with Alan. She wasn’t prepared to divulge highly personal experiences to Traci as Sharon did.

But Phyllis sees the value in meeting with Traci’s fiance, an esteemed psychiatrist. Little does Sharon or Traci know that Alan is the man who kidnapped and held them hostage.

No one has yet determined or confirmed that Alan also might be his assumed dead brother Martin Laurent (Cousins in a dual role).

The breakthrough Phyllis and Sharon realized while held captive is why both ladies are willing to explore analysis with Alan. They want and need closure because of the PTSD they are experiencing, though Phyllis visibly appears to be suffering the more significant stress.

Alan Laurent Always Intended The Endgame?

Alan, who will be called for simplicity’s sake until his identity question is resolved, gained knowledge of Sharon’s backstory when he was called in by Chance Chancellor (Conner Floyd).

The hypnotic sessions he held with Sharon helped them in the Jordan Howard (Colleen Zenk) and Ian Ward (Ray Wise) cases.

But the next time Sharon sees Alan, he will pursue a different agenda. Alan likely was helping Sharon when initially meeting with her and working for the police. But he used that opportunity to create a bizarre experiment.

Why Alan wanted to pair Sharon and Phyllis and how he expected their hostage hold to end is yet to be known. But that’s what makes the anticipated cat-and-mouse conversations so appealing. Sharon and Phyllis are likely to discover their abductor.
