The Young and the Restless spoilers suggest fans were completely shocked when it was revealed that “Alan Laurent” a.k.a. Martin Laurent (Christopher Cousins), was the mystery captor behind the kidnapping of Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) and Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) at the abandoned Havenhurst clinic.
It wasn’t so much shocking that Martin could be Alan, but why he decided to kidnap and torture both Phyllis and Sharon remains a mystery.
While fans are in the loop about the kidnapper, the ladies, as well as Genoa City as a whole, are still in the dark.
With that said, during the week of March 24-28, Traci Abbott, “Alan’s” fiancé, began putting the piece together, and it seems as if she is starting to see that Alan may be Martin and that he was the person behind this odd hostage situation. Actress Beth Maitland recently revealed her reaction to this stunning plot twist.
Beth Maitland – “You Can’t Be Happy On Daytime Very Long”
The Young and the Restless fans have enjoyed seeing Traci in love and happy, but it looks like this all may come to an end. Maitland recently spoke with TV Insider, admitting she was bracing herself for a plot twist in Traci’s “happily ever after romance”.
The actress states that, “I was absolutely not surprised. I mean, you can’t be happy on daytime very long, or if you are, you’re relegated to go upstairs to wash your hair and never come back.”
Traci Abbott Won’t Crumble
While it’s sad that Traci has been duped by Martin, as it is likely that he switched spots with Alan after the balcony tumble – making her entire relationship a massive lie – Maitland believes that Traci will be okay.
She notes, “The good news is that we start from the perspective that Traci already has a life she loves. She has people that matter to her, she has purpose, and she has a career that she also loves.”
Still, this doesn’t downplay the heartache that Traci has gone through and will continue to go through in the aftermath of all this. Traci will play an integral role in bringing “Alan/Martin” down, as she sees the warning signs and takes action.
Fans should expect to see Traci also feel terrible that she didn’t see the red flags earlier, causing her to feel responsible for what happened to Sharon and Phyllis, as well as her sister, Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson).
Interestingly enough, as an actress, Maitland is “grateful” for the storyline and being thrown into the spotlight thanks to the plot twist. The actress states, “It’s definitely a generous story gift to Traci to be able to be a part of unraveling all of this.”
