Whitney Way Thore Slammed For ‘Mean-Spirited Joke’

Whitney Way Thore made a joke but many My Big Fat Fabulous Life (MBFFL) fans feel it wasn’t funny and they accused her of being “mean-spirited.” That’s because it involved her friend and trainer, Jessica Powell, who lost her dad, Will last month

The Joke Was Lost On Fans

Some critics think that the MBFFL star treats her friends badly. So much so, that some people believe they only stick with the TLC star for a check from the network. Furthermore, some viewers think that because she sometimes comes over as a mean girl, she will never land a man.

On Reddit, the post that Whitney shared on social media didn’t seem funny at all. In the opinion of those who engaged in the discussion, it was “cruel” and inappropriate. This is precisely why people often react badly to TLC star’s social media antics.

The Joke Was In Poor Taste?

Ahead of the weekend, the My Big Fat Fabulous Life star shared some photos and related a story about how Jessica Powell’s dad, Will reacted to a question she asked him. Jessica had popped in for a visit, and basically, Whitney wanted her to go away. So, she asked Will how he would deal with it. He joked back that he pretends he’s not at home.

One follower asked the MBFFL star if she and Jessica Powell fell out, but Whitney Way Thore assured them that they were just joking. Well, the OP on Reddit felt it was nasty. In part, they wrote:

…she posted this VM from Will and his response makes it sound like Jessica has some serious mental issues…This was in November. Joke or not, I don’t think it’s funny and find it to be mean spirited. That’s her MO. Sh*t on her friends so she can try to look “cool”…

Critics React In The Comments

Perhaps if Whitney Way Thore had posted this at any other time, there wouldn’t be so much criticism. However, Jessica Powell is still grieving for her dad. So, angry viewers slammed Whitney for it. Here are some of their opinions:

  • Even if it was a joke, why would you put this out in the public when someone’s just lost their father?
  • She’s cruel. This is her MO. Even if I ever thought it appropriate to share this, I’d include the person (in this case Jess) so we could laugh about the convo where her own father clearly isn’t serious about hiding from her.
  • How is that a joke?? I don’t get it. How cruel can you be?
  • I can pretty much guarantee that if Jessica had pulled a similar stunt right after Bab’s passing, it wouldn’t be so funny.
