Meghan Markle’s latest venture into the world of television, With Love, Meghan, has already sparked controversy, with British socialite and media personality Tamara Beckwith making her opinion crystal clear.
Beckwith, a longtime friend of Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, and her daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, did not hold back when asked about Meghan’s new Netflix cookery and lifestyle series.
“I won’t be watching any of it,” Beckwith stated, signaling her disinterest in the show, which has received mixed to negative reviews from UK publications and major rating platforms. Her criticism, however, seems to stem from more than just personal taste.
A History of Discontent
Beckwith has previously expressed her disapproval of Meghan and Prince Harry’s 2022 Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan, particularly calling out a moment in which Meghan reenacted her first meeting with the late Queen Elizabeth II.
The duchess exaggerated a deep curtsy while recounting the event, a gesture that many royal supporters found offensive.
“I don’t understand how you can disrespect my Queen, and there’s no way you can convince me that wasn’t blatant disrespect,” Beckwith told Richard Eden of the Daily Mail.
The moment went viral, fueling criticism from those who saw it as mocking the late monarch. Beckwith did not mince words about her feelings, adding, “It’s just dreadful, and she’s dreadful. I don’t want to be mean, but she’s just not my people.”
The Yorks Remain Silent
Despite Beckwith’s strong stance, neither Sarah Ferguson nor her daughters, Beatrice and Eugenie, have publicly commented on Meghan’s series.
The York family has been known to support Beckwith’s charity, the Lady Garden Foundation, which raises awareness and funds for gynecological health issues.
The foundation, which Beckwith co-founded, has seen the attendance of the York royals at various events, including the Lady Garden Gala in 2022.
Interestingly, Eugenie has maintained a notably close relationship with Meghan and Prince Harry, frequently visiting them and even appearing in their previous Netflix documentary.
However, her silence on this latest controversy suggests a desire to steer clear of the ongoing royal tensions.
Beckwith’s Royal Ties
Beyond her friendships with the Yorks, Beckwith has long been part of Britain’s high society, and her connections even include rumored past ties to Prince Andrew.
While those whispers remain unconfirmed, her bond with Sarah Ferguson and her daughters is well-documented.
Whether With Love, Meghan will overcome its initial wave of criticism remains to be seen, but with voices like Beckwith’s making their displeasure known, the show’s reception among royal circles appears anything but warm.
