Since stepping down from their roles as senior members of the Royal Family, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have lived overseas; first in Canada, and later the US where they bought a home in the form of a multi-million dollar mansion in the exclusive neighborhood of Montecito.
However, even then they still retained their UK base Frogmore Cottage, which was a wedding gift from Queen Elizabeth the II. Needless to say, Harry’s ‘Spare’ cost him the posh 4-bedroom UK home. Reportedly, he tried to fight for it by reasoning with his father.
Prince Harry Explained to His Father King Charles that He Won’t See His Grandchildren if He Took Frogmore Cottage
Even though the Sussexes had complained about the size of Frogmore Cottage, they still wanted to hold onto it in case of future UK visits with their young family.
But you already know the story of how, shortly after the publication of ‘Spare,’ King Charles contacted Harry to tell him to move his belongings out of Frogmore Cottage.
According to Omid Scobie, a desperate Harry called his father and made a seven-word plea: “Don’t you want to see your grandchildren?” In reply, the King was said to have half-heartedly offered that they would always have ‘somewhere’ to stay.”
While the King ultimately made the decision to evict Prince Harry, the decision was rumored to have been suggested by the Princess Royal. Princess Anne was said to have pushed the firm and swift reply to Harry’s ‘Spare,’ where he, more or less, defamed several members of his family.
Since losing Frogmore Cottage, Harry has made several solo trips to the UK, and at some point, rumors emerged that the couple are seeking to purchase a UK residence. They ultimately chose to go a different direction, instead buying a property in Portugal.
At present, Harry has said he’s happy and content to be in his California home with his wife raising their children.
They’re also a busy couple, as they’ve released back-to-back unscripted shows for Netflix. Harry’s ‘Polo’ may have underperformed, but there’s every chance fans might not resist seeing the Duchess cook, clean and entertain.
