Prince Harry is so proud of his work with Invictus Games that he wouldn’t change a thing in the decade that the games have existed. Here’s what he has to say about the competition in his latest interview.
Prince Harry Reflects On the Experience He’s Gained Since Founding Invictus Games In 2014
Every year, the Invictus Games grows bigger and better. In 2023, countries like Nigeria joined the competition created for veterans for the first time. This year, the competition incorporated winter sports for the first time when it took place in Canada this year.
This year’s Invictus Games was held in venues located in Vancouver and Whistler, and saw Harry arrive with Meghan to enjoy the events, though the latter didn’t stay for the whole of the games.
“Today, I have the benefit of hindsight and experience, but I wouldn’t change any of it—except still wishing there were no need for the Invictus Games,” he reflected on life since founding the games in an interview with US Weekly.
Praising his wife’s enduring commitment to The Games – she has attended every Invictus Games competition since their meeting in 2016 – Harry said that she “has been part of this community since shortly after the Orlando Games in 2016 and has loved every minute of it.”
“There are so many special memories,” he said, recalling a moment from the 2018 Sydney, Australia Games when a well-wisher gave him a “bear hug.”
While he accepted the hug wholeheartedly, he was a bit worried the well-wisher might attempt the same with his pregnant wife. He said, “my genuine concern that he might try the same with my wife, who was pregnant at the time!”
Speaking on the future of the games, Harry revealed, “I’ve learned, evolved, and been shaped by the resilience and brilliance of our Invictus community. Serving them and their families remains one of the greatest privileges of my life.”
Just as Meghan was on hand to support Harry for the first half of the Games, Harry is always ready to return the favor. One of the ways he’s currently doing this is by appearing on her Netflix show, ‘With Love, Meghan.’ The cooking show will premiere this March 4.
