Some feel-good news about One Life to Live (OLTL) alum, Eddie Alderson, who played Matthew Buchanan on the soap from 2001 to 2012 (and also happens to be the younger brother of fellow OLTL alum, Kristen Alderson, who played Starr Manning). A news outlet is reporting a real-life heroic act of the former soap star, and we have all the details below.
Eddie Alderson’s Life, Post-OLTL
Since leaving the world of soaps in 2012, Alderson dove into the public service sector, first working as an EMT and now employed as an Amtrak police officer in Philadelphia. Both roles had him prepared for one of those “at the right place at the right time” moments to save the life of Steve Smart, an Amtrak conductor.
As per a report from Philly’s Action News (ABC), Alderson recently had a reunion with Smart. The Amtrak conductor had an emergency at Philadelphia’s 30th Street Station when he stopped breathing some weeks back, and the former soap actor jumped right in.
Alderson performed CPR while they waited for the paramedics to arrive, which did the trick as Smart was rushed to the hospital, surviving the incident.
Smart’s fiancé notes in the news report that doctors believed even if Steve pulled through, he’d be in a vegetative state; however, Smart not only woke up after two weeks in the ICU, but he also shared a beautiful reunion with the man who saved his life.
Alderson Is A “Real-Life” Angel
Smart called Alderson is a “real-life” angel, but the OLTL alum insisted it was all part of a day’s work, relaying “You always hope for a good outcome, and luckily for him, it turned out OK.”
Alderson may not feel as if he is a hero, but for Steve Smart and his family, he definitely is!
While Alderson spent most of his career on OLTL, earning him a Daytime Emmy nomination in 2012 within the Outstanding Younger Actor category, he was also seen in the 2007 Reservation Road movie and the 2008 flick Changeling and participated in an episode of the primetime drama Law & Order in 2009.
