Olivia Plath left Ethan and this week, on social media, she revisited her escape from her marriage. it wasn’t easy, but the more TLC fans hear, the more they wonder about the co-called Christians in the Welcome to Plathville family.
The Divorce Seemed Toxic
The TLC show revealed Ethan Plath telling his wife that he didn’t want kids if they turned out to be like her. What a hurtful thing to say, fans agreed. But, there wasn’t a massive amount of toxicity shown. After the split, Ethan went for a long road trip to nurse his broken heart, But, on her Instagram Stories, this weekend, Olivia Plath described the ugliness that really happened.
The Welcome to Plathville star explained that her decision to walk away came two years ago. And, she mentioned some ugly things. For example, she talked about “sleeping on the floor,” and being denied access to “a vehicle.” Trapped and fearing for her “safety,” she’d reach a point where enough was enough.

Ending up at a “restaurant,” she thought things over and decided the “stain” on her didn’t matter. She had to get away. So, Olivia wasn’t going to let a “divorce…define [her.]” Then, she planned a way out and made good her escape. While she agreed that “divorce is the hardest thing” she ever did, she found “peace” later.
Discussing The Plath Family
On Reddit, when u/peewee666 shared the post, the discussion turned to the Plath family who claimed to be very big Christians. The problem with those claims is that people scorn them when they act in an unchristian way. It’s not only religious people that attract that sort of criticism. Imagine if Tammy Slaton suddenly put back all her weight and claimed she remained on her diet. Reality TV fans want cast members to walk the talk.
One Welcome to Plathville fan wrote, “I’ve long suspected TLC of prettifying not just the Plaths, but many of their casts beliefs/actions so that they won’t get cancelled.”
Another TLC fan also talked about that, writing, “I…think that the Plaths are smart enough not to let the mask slip, especially regarding their beliefs. We all know that Kim is batsh*t crazy but she is clever enough not to talk about demon toothpaste and the sort on the show.”
Regarding the scene of Lydia Plath in her prayer closet after being caught texting a boy, a follower opined, “The prayer closet was all I had to see to know something way worse was going on.”
People Hate Hypocrisy
Even those who don’t like Olivia Palth can’t really call her a hypocrite as she was always open about her feelings. Whereas, Moriah Plath, who got super-religious was baptized. However, she couldn’t bring herself to remember the times when Olivia was kind and helped her.
