Olivia Plath from Welcome to Plathville will not be silenced by critics who don’t like her criticizing the lifestyle of fundamentalists. This week, she spoke out on social media against those who have issues with her discussions about her childhood.
Speaking Out Finds Critics
In recent weeks, Olivia opened up about life with Ethan Plath and more. So did Micah’s ex-girlfriend, Veronica Peters. Additionally, fans already know from Counting On, that the way fundamentalists raise their children doesn’t always sit well with outsiders. As Olivia spoke about her childhood, she found a lot of critics who wanted her to sit down and shut up.

On Instagram this Saturday, the TLC star shared some of the reactions that she gets from a certain group of Christians. One of them, for instance, said, “Get over yourself. You had a roof over your head and food.” They added, “You act like you were abused because you couldn’t listen to a certain type of music. Always the victim.”
Not Remaining Silent
That sort of reaction puzzled Olivia Plath, who said in her reel, in part:
Every time I talk about my childhood publically, these are the comments that I get. The ironic thing is that these people probaly started following me because they saw me on a TV show that highlighted a religious, highly controlling family. And, what happens to the kids when they grow up? What is the fallout? What are the ramifications?
Continuing, Olivia admitted that growing up like the Plath kids did not work for her. The idea of “conforming” and becoming a “clone” was anathema. So, she wondered why people would see that controlling factor on the show, then follow her. And then, they tell her to “shut up” about her “childhood,” which seems very odd.
Maybe the talk that Olivia Plath gave was too much for her critics. After all, she used words like “correlation,” “challenging narratives,” and “disparity of information.” It’s thought that big words often see people click away in a hurry. Why is that? Well, often, processing complex vocabulary requires more cognitive effort, and we “live in an age of quick skimming,” per Slate. But essentially, what she said is that she will not shut up.
Fans React In the Comments
