Olivia Plath’s split from Ethan Plath is currently doing the rounds on social media and in the last week, she shared quite a lot about her divorce and why she opted out. This week, the Welcome to Plathville star shared more about it and called out trolls who sent some ugly messages.
Divorce Was Not An Easy Option
Olivia’s initial post explained her difficult decision to leave. The TLC star mentioned sleeping on the floor and being denied access to a vehicle. Obviously, that made her feel trapped and unsafe. Eventually, she reached a breaking point and made up her mind to get out of her marriage with Ethan. Now, she’s found some peace, but she admitted it was “the hardest thing” she’d ever done.
On March 24, 2025, Olivia took to her Instagram profile page again and followed up with a series of text memes. Initially, she thanked the people who reached out in support of her. That made her feel good because she hoped her experience might help others escape from bad relationships. However, she also talked about the hate she got in her DMs.
The Hate Was High
“I’ve shared a few surface-level details here and there about what my relationship was really like,” Olivia wrote. “But I haven’t gone into a ton of details because I’m still unpacking and finding terminology for what I experienced.” Then she mentioned how she wants to be open, find healing, and move on. But, she’s also still figuring out legal issues, like NDAs.

Olivia Plath also mentioned another reason for her hesitation: the hateful messages because she mentioned “DV.” She said, “I’ve been called every name under the sun, told that I should k*ll myself.” That upset her so she added, “That [is] just like a woman to try to destroy a man’s reputation…” Plus, she mentioned that the hate from those trolls mainly comes from fans of the Plath family.
Finding Support
Lots of people responded positively. “I have admired you from day one of watching that reality show,” one person wrote. They added, “And I admire you so much more for speaking out and sharing your story.”
Others echoed the sentiment. “Yes Olivia yesss. we’re with you,” one wrote. Meanwhile, others told her to ignore the negativity. “Please know the keyboard warriors are just that—people,” someone wrote, adding, “Real human beings understand you and love watching you flourish.”
The discussion touched on the Plath family’s public image. In fact, many people question the family’s Christian claims. They point to instances where the family’s actions seem to contradict their beliefs. Kim Plath’s divorce and DUI come to mind.
Olivia, despite her struggles, at least tried to be honest. Conversely, Moriah Plath gets criticism for forgetting Olivia’s past kindness.
