At this point, Netflix just wants their money back, and they’re willing to follow the Sussexes down any path to get it.
Even though a well-placed Netflix souce revealed that the couple’s signing money wasn’t anywhere near $100 million, as was initially reported, it’s still apparently enough for Netflix to think of branching into the lifestyle business.
Meghan Markle’s As Ever Branded “Out of Touch” For Flogging Expensive Products
After a lot of delays and setbacks, Meghan Markle’s As Ever launched, and its jams – yes, the same ones she gifted Kris Jenner and Chrissy Teigen and more – was sold out within an hour.
Despite this, news commentator Samara Gill still saw the downsides of Meghan Markle’s £11 raspberry preserve.
Speaking on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive, news commentator Samara Gill said: “I don’t know what world she thinks she’s living in right now, if she hasn’t stepped foot outside the gates of Montecito to understand that. I don’t know if your average American is going to be dishing out 14 dollars for a pot of jam or it’s not really jam.”
She continued: “It’s a strawberry preserve, of course. But I think the whole lineup is really, really out of touch. No one’s paying £12 pounds or $12 dollars for some tea.
Fans are incensed over Meghan Markle’s jam – one of her As Ever offerings – as they say it’s spread too thin and looks disgusting.”
Netflix Is Sticking With the Sussexes’ Until They Make Their Money Back, Expert Reveals
2025 is the year Prince Harry and Meghan’s contract with Netflix will expire. Will they renew?
Some reports say they will. Others say they won’t. What they do remains to be seen, though Netflix has ordered a second season for Meghan’s cooking show, ‘With Love, Meghan.’
Weighing in on this, royal author Phil Dampier opined that Netflix is simply looking forward to getting some of their money back.
Dampier explained: “I think having invested $100million in the shows that they did – and the thing about Polo, which universally panned – but I mean, they’ve obviously made a decision. They’re going to stick with them for the time being. They’re going to go for it, and they’re going in for a penny, in for a pound.”
He added: “And, you know, if they can get some money back with the merchandising, great.”
Gill agreed with Dampier’s reasoning, saying, “Well, her sheer fakery when she sort of announced the cobbled together collaboration of her and Netflix. We know that that was a last minute decision. And I totally agree with you, Phil. They’re trying to get some of that $100million that they ploughed into this disaster back.”
Do you agree? Do you think this is just an opportunity for Netflix to get their dough back or are they in it because they believe in Meghan’s vision?
