There’s nothing more beautiful than special moments shared with family. They make the hard days easier and fill the rainy days with memories of bright moments.
We all know that last year was a particularly trying one for His Majesty King Charles, what with his and his beloved daughter-in-law’s cancer diagnosis.
But every once in a while, life brings us simple moments that just make us smile. And the king’s came in the form of a throwback moment with his son.
King Charles Shares His Candid Reaction To Prince William Speaking About Inheriting the Duchy of Cornwall
Prior to King Charles’ accession in 2023, Prince William had mused about inheriting the impressive Duchy of Cornwall estate during a conversation with a second generation farmer.
He said in the resurfaced ITV documentary titled, ‘Prince Charles: Inside the Duchy of Cornwall,’ “I’ve started to think about how I will inherit the Duchy one day and what I do with it. I think it’s really important. The family angle, I really do.”
Even though those words were spoken many years ago, King Charles couldn’t help but be choked with emotions upon hearing them. “When I saw it, I couldn’t believe it. I was deeply touched and moved by what he said,” Charles said, adding, “Frankly, it reduced me tears. It did, really, because I suddenly thought, well, just hearing that from him has made the last 50 years worthwhile.”
Prince William inherited the Duchy of Cornwall when Charles became the ruling monarch. The hereditary Duchy of Cornwall was set up many years ago to provide a source of income for the heir to the British throne. The vast estate includes an impressive network of land, property and various businesses.
Prince William, on his own part, has decided to use the estate’s vast properties to push for his dream of a Britain where there are no homeless people.
In fact, he has dedicated some of the estate’s lands to building homes – a planned 24 homes at present – that will house the less fortunate. It is expected to be completed in autumn 2025.
It’s nothing new that William has been a strong advocate against the condition of homelessness, even taking to the streets to sell copies of the Big Issue. “I count myself extremely lucky to have a role that allows me to meet people from all walks of life, and to understand their full story – whatever it may be. It’s a privilege that many of us, busy with our days, don’t always afford,” he wrote for The Big Issue in 2022.
