General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that Cameron Mathison is a daytime staple. Tons of fans watching him now remember watching him portray Ryan Lavery on All My Children way back in the 90s.
A whole other audience have enjoyed watching him playing Mike Kingston in Hallmark’s Murder, She Baked series and serving as a correspondent for Good Morning America.
Drew Cain Was Once a Good Guy
Today he stars on General Hospital as Drew Cain a character who has been given a makeover in recent times.
Drew was once a guy fans rooted for, an antihero who always did the right thing. Today the character has morphed into a dark shadow that many fans are unhappy with.
Fans have been dissecting the character’s story arc on social media and we have some of the controversial talking points here.
Drew Cain Was Once a Good Guy
Mathison debuted on GH in 2021, taking over from Billy Miller. One Reddit user commented that “GH‘s biggest mistake was bringing in Cameron Mathison as Drew Quartermaine.”
They added “Making CM Drew was definitely a big mistake…they should have just brought him in as his All My Children character of Ryan Lavery and have Ryan cross over to Port Charles from Pine Valley.”
“[The soap] could have had Ryan jump in at Crimson or even had Ryan come in at The Invader. Making him Ryan would have made much more sense.”
Cameron Mathison Not Popular as Drew Cain
Those of a different opinion noted that the tale is being spun by the writers and it’s simply Mathison’s job to act the words out on screen.
Nonetheless, the fan base was vocal about their unhappiness with the way that Drew is being written with one posting “It was a mistake as him as Drew. CM shouldn’t have even come to GH. I rather have Vincent Irizarry as Dr. David Hayward on the show. At least he has ties to Anna and we could always use more doctors!”
Another person chimed in “I don’t understand why they brought back the character back at all… drew is kind of a dead end character.”
Yet another fan had this opinion about Drew’s fate: “I think we are supposed to hate him on every level. He’ll either be dead or totally transformed in the next 12 months!”
That is an interesting proposition. What do you think GH fans, about Drew Cain’s story trajectory? And have you considered that the character might be being written into a corner with no way out?
