General Hospital spoilers and rumors tease with Kristina Corinthos-Davis’ (Kate Mansi) wild behavior, not only lately, but since the early teens, there’s something wrong with that girl!
The last few months have been rough, losing a sister and a baby, and she could be in post-partum psychosis; but why hasn’t she ever been checked for bipolar disorder?
Kristina Ticks All The Boxes For Post-Partum Psychosis, But It’s Rare
Post-partum depression happens to many mothers, but post-partum psychosis is rare-usually there have to be comorbidities, meaning related conditions such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder.
Kristina’s recent behavior makes no sense-albeit there is an understandable build-up of anger against Ava Jerome (Maura West) who was partly responsible for Morgan Corinthos’ (Bryan Craig) death.
She didn’t set the bomb that killed him, which was meant for her own brother, but she did tamper with his bipolar medication and it was a factor.
Post-partum psychosis can last several months after giving birth-or after losing a baby, but still, there has to be an underlying disorder.
And Kristina’s been erratic her whole life, and with both Morgan and her father, Sonny Corinthos, (Maurice Benard) having the disease, there’s a very good chance that she does too.
Kristina Was Traumatized By Several Situations In her Young Life
It’s true that Kristina was traumatized by several situations in her young life, kidnappings, seeing someone shot and killed, and then there was Kiefer Bauer (Christian Alexander).
He was a boyfriend who abused her, so post-traumatic stress disorder wouldn’t be surprising-but yet, even though she went through some counseling for that and depression, she’s never been screened for bipolar!
And while Kristina’s recent behavior can be attributed to post-partum psychosis, with her deluded misbehaviors, this kind of behavior has been present in her since her early teenage years.
She has always been erratic, her decision-making impulsive and showing poor judgment, and her temper wildly driving her-just like her dad; and many of Sonny’s crimes were bipolar-driven.
Sonny’s Judgment Improved After His Diagnosis
Sonny’s judgment skills improved after his diagnosis and once he was put on medication-when he’s on his meds, he’s much less impulsive and more prone to think things out before acting.
Of course, there are still times when he has to think on his feet and pull his weapon out like anyone would in self-defense, but he doesn’t shoot first ask questions later!
Kristina’s recent decision to solve the problem of Ava, driven both by the loss of baby Irene Ashford/Adela Corinthos-Davis (Mazlyn) and Ava withholding heart pills from Sonny, wasn’t well thought out.
And while Kristina did realize she’d made a mistake, it was too late to fix it-had she been diagnosed and on medication, perhaps she’d made sure it was Ava’s car first!
