I have to admit, I’ve been a bit of a sucker for those 1999 flashbacks of Elizabeth Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst) and Lucky Spencer (Jonathan Jackson).
That was a golden era of General Hospital for me, and I loved these two so much together back then that a part of me wants to see a real reunion. But should it really happen?
Lucky Doesn’t Like To Stick Around
This time around, Lucky seems serious about sticking around and prioritizing Liz and their teenage son, Aiden. In the past, Lucky would breeze back into town for a particular purpose and leave just as quickly.
He has always had (in his mind) a higher calling to save the world, rather than sticking around long enough to be a good father.
Liz is so used to him disappearing that she was afraid for Aiden to get to know his dad, for fear he would be hurt by Lucky deciding to bolt.
It’s a chance that they have taken, and so far it has paid off. Lucky has stayed in Port Charles for more than six months, and the family bonding is going really well.
Liz’s Relationship Track Record Without Lucky Isn’t So Great
Liz is one of those characters that you want to see have a great big love story that really sticks, but it never ends up that way. She favors complicated (or broken) men, and it’s usually a really long, bumpy path until they inevitably break up.
She has been very cautious about Lucky, not trusting his intentions at all at first, which was really wise.
Now, Liz seems to be all-in on rekindling things with her first love, but should she? Their attempts keep getting interrupted, and maybe that is a sign.
Lucky’s Major Misstep With Kristina
Lucky has repeatedly said that Liz is the most important person in the world to him, that everything in one way or another revolves around her, but is that really true?
When Kristina Corinthos (Kate Mansi) cut the brakes on the wrong car and nearly killed both Liz and Ric Lansing (Rick Hearst), Lucky knew immediately.
He was standing there as Kristina realized that she had intentionally tampered with the wrong car, and she spilled her guts.
Lucky was furious with her when he realized that Liz was in the car, and he insisted that she do the right thing and turn herself in. Once Lucky found out that Liz was going to be fine, he agreed to keep Kristina’s secret. Would he really do that if Liz were the center of his world?
She could have died, and he agreed not to hold Kristina accountable. Liz deserves a man who fights for her and puts her ahead of everyone else, doesn’t she?
