GH Spoilers: Could Sonny’s Health Scare Signal The End Of An Era?

General Hospital (GH) spoilers and updates tease the specter of death hangs heavily over Port Charles, with numerous characters meeting their demise  in recent months.

A recent clip has shown Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), suffer yet another recent health scare; fans are starting to wonder if Port Charles is set to lose another character.

General Hospital Spoilers – Sonny Corinthos’s Playing Risky Games With His Health

Sonny has been on the show since 1993, and over the years, viewers have seen the powerful mob leader become a central character on the soap.

However, in a recent clip, Sonny could be seen suffering chest pain. With the character’s health already being up in the air, soap fans are worried the character’s time might soon be up.

As noted by Mandatory, Sonny could be seen working out at a gym, only to suffer chest pains and fall to the ground.  Not wanting to come off as vulnerable, he refuses to get his health checked.

GH Spoilers – A Miracle Save

At the gym, Sonny got a miracle save, when Dr. Isaiah Gannon (Sawandi Wilson) who’d been there previously with Lucky Spencer (Jonathan Jackson) returned. He wanted to take him to the hospital immediately and call for an ambulance, but Sonny declined.

Sonny finally agrees to let Dr. Gannon conduct a home examination, but they were interrupted by a visit from Jason Morgan (Steve Burton).  

A sneak peek for a recent  episode reveals that his health issues are still very much present, as viewers caught a glimpse of Sonny once again clutching his chest, although he at least had a pill to take. Likely, it was nitroglycerin prescribed by Isaiah for his AFIB (atrial fibrillation). 

General Hospital Spoilers – Fans Again Worry Is Sonny Corinthos Dying?

This of course, started sparking concerns among fans that this might signal the end of his character on the show. Many are anxious about his chances of surviving the recent health challenges he has faced.

However, it’s important to note that neither the show’s creators nor Benard have made  any official announcement regarding his or his character’s exit from the series.

 As highlighted by Mandatory, “Since there are no credible reports suggesting Sonny’s departure, it is reasonable to conclude that he will remain a part of the show. The rumors surrounding his exit likely stem from the ongoing health challenges faced by his character.”

GH Spoilers – The Writers’ Statement

His situation might have gotten worse after years of juggling his personal and criminal life, which probably affected his mental and physical well-being.

As mentioned earlier, near the end of 2024, co-head writers Elizabeth Korte and Chris Van Etten hinted at what fans could expect in 2025. In an interview with TV Insider, they said, “Sonny faces an existential crisis that makes him rethink his personal and professional lives.”

They added that Sonny will “have to make a significant choice about his future-and anything that affects the current mob boss of Port Charles will influence everyone around him.” At that time, viewers had already noticed signs of Sonny’s health issues on the show.

However, the writers indicated that Sonny wouldn’t quickly give in to his health challenges, and a resolution to his problems should come soon.
