Nigel’s Confusion
Sharon Watts (Leticia Dean) is delighted by a Mother’s Day surprise from her brother Zack Hudson (James Farrar) and her young son Albie Mitchell (Arthur Gentleman). However, her joy is short-lived when Nigel Bates (Paul Bradley) informs her that Phil is missing.
After Phil’s recent hospitalization for depression following a suicide attempt, Nigel, Sharon, and Denise Fox (Diane Parish) decide to contact the police.
Fortunately, Phil soon returns with a straightforward explanation for his absence. He realizes that the confusion stems from Nigel’s dementia and decides to protect his friend, but Sharon remains skeptical.
Phil’s Confession
To support Phil, Sharon seeks help from Denise and Kathy Cotton (Gillian Taylforth). Phil is moved by Sharon’s concern, and with encouragement from Denise and Nigel, he confesses his feelings for her when they are alone.
How will Sharon respond to Phil’s confession of his love? Just then, she is interrupted by someone’s arrival and doesn’t get a chance to respond to Phil. Will she confess her mutual love for him, or have to disappoint him into the friend zone?
Vicki’s Return
Vicki Fowler (Alice Haig) arrives in a black taxi, leaving Sharon surprised to see her adoptive sister with her new partner Ross (Alex Walkinshaw) and his teenage son Joel (Max Murray).
Vicki shares that she is back for her uncle Martin’s funeral and mentions that she has split from her long-time partner, Spencer Moon (Christopher Parker).
Meanwhile, Spencer’s brother Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) and his partner Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace) visit Sharon to see Vicki, only to be taken aback by Spencer’s absence.
Kat presses Vicki for details, leading to the revelation of the true reasons behind the breakup. But what really transpired?
Vicki Has A Big Motive
Later, Ross encourages Vicki to request money from Sharon. However, after Kathy updates Vicki on Sharon’s recent struggles, she decides to change her mind and seeks help from her relative Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) instead.
At Beale’s Eels, Vicki fabricates a story about her financial troubles and asks Ian for a loan; Ian informs Sharon about the request, leading her to confront Vicki about it. Vicki brushes off her sister’s concerns, which heightens the tension between them.
Meanwhile, Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) offers Sharon some advice, and Ross attempts to get to know Vicki’s extended family, but his intentions may not be trustworthy.
Bex Fowler Makes A Request, Sonia Fowler Struggles
Bex Fowler (Jasmine Armfield) returns to Albert Square for Martin Fowler’s (James Bye) funeral and meets her new baby sister, Julia Fowler (uncredited).
She asks her mother, Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy), to accompany her to the undertakers to say farewell to Martin. However, Sonia, feeling overwhelmed, cannot bring herself to go.
Meanwhile, Ruby Allen (Louisa Lytton) confronts Jean Slater (Gillian Wright) at the café about Stacey Slater’s (Lacey Turner) location before heading to the undertakers for an emotional farewell to Martin. Eventually, Sonia agrees to join Bex, and Kathy also comes along.
Sad Breakdowns At The Funeral Home
At the coffin, Kathy and Bex share heartfelt tributes to Martin, but Sonia is too emotional to speak. Once they are alone, Sonia breaks down in tears as she says her final goodbyes to Martin.
With the funeral approaching, will Martin’s family and friends be able to handle the difficult day ahead? In a sense, Martin was Reiss Colwell’s (Jonny Freeman) final victim, since the explosion and fire wouldn’t have happened had he not crashed into the Queen Vic.
As a result of Reiss’s crash into the gas cylinders, Martin became trapped under rubble and died of compartment syndrome.
Peter’s Proposal As Tension Mounts
Peter tries to comfort Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) on the day of their baby scan, but his mind is occupied with concerns for his mother. Cindy Beale’s (Michelle Collins), old friend Gita Kapoor (Shobu Kapoor) reports her missing.
As a result, Peter misses the scan, leading to a confrontation with Lauren, who is upset about his lack of attention-she expresses her frustration Cindy’s issues continue to affect them.
Meanwhile, Kathy and Ian urge Peter to reconcile with Lauren; he proposes to her, but she declines, explaining to Peter and Kathy that she is not ready for marriage. Later, Peter goes to their flat for a serious discussion with Lauren; will they be able to resolve their issues?
Bianca Targeted By A Reporter
Bianca Jackson (Patsy Palmer) and Sonia go to Beale’s Eels for lunch, where Bianca encounters a woman named Charlotte (uncredited).
They connect and decide to go to Harry’s Barn for a drink. However, Charlotte has ulterior motives, which are revealed when Bianca learns that she is a journalist.
Although Bianca turns down the chance for an interview about the killer Reiss she is curious and shares the incident with Sonia.
