Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers note that it’s been a very long while since fans have seen Dr. Olivia Barber Hastings Winters in Genoa City.

Actress Tonay Williams stepped into the role in 1990, had a brief exit in 2005, and returned to the show from 2007 to 2012.

Last year, the Y&R produced a number of special episodes to honor their 50th anniversary, and while a slew of characters came back to celebrate with co-stars, there was one missing from the bunch, and that was Dr. Winters.

Y&R spoilers suggest that Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic) would have likely loved to see his mom during the bicentennial gala in GC; however, it never came to be.

Ms. Williams spoke with Soaps.com and explained why she didn’t accept the show’s invitation to return for their 50th special episodes and why she likely won’t be coming back to the soap.

Tonya starts by saying that the daytime drama is “fantastic” and that she loves the soap and left on good terms.

She explains the reason she didn’t come back to the show during their 50th celebrations, by stating, “Honestly, it would have been lovely to do. But I could not imagine doing the role. I go through a lot of process into who that character is, and that character was someone from 20 years ago. I said to them, ‘I don’t want to do it a disservice.

I really feel I left Olivia on a high note, and everyone has a great memory.’ It would stress me out to think of the weeks I would need to shut down the other things I’m doing to focus only on this.”

When Tonya was asked if there was even the slightest chance, she may step into the role of Olivia again, she says, “I would need to mentally prepare for this character. And I just don’t feel I have the chops for it anymore, or the desire really.”
