So, Sharon Newman’s (Sharon Case) revived mental health issues is the believable plot vehicle driving this scary storyline.
The specter Sharon is seeing is a projection of her unresolved demons. Cameron’s words represent the dark parts of her mind that are no longer checked because she chose to go off her meds.
The audience wonders why Sharon’s loved ones are taking her word for having stopped taking her prescription medication. But fans remember this is soap; some issues must be accepted to let stories flow.
The answer to the subject header could be yes. One could let some time pass and see where Cameron’s afterlife return goes.
But anyone can plausibly offer a terse no. Someone could ask why Sharon knowingly went off her medication and also why no one recognized that as a possibility long before she admitted to doing so.
With whatever one wants to decide, the audience has been led to this point in the plot. What comes next could affirm the patience of some or reinforce the doubt of others.
Cameron was obsessed with Sharon from their first ill-fated meeting. His torture of her and Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) was unexpectedly revived years after the fact.
In what proved to be a great return, Ashby returned to Y&R two decades after his debut. That storyline was a great thriller that ended with Sharon stabbing him to death with a knife Nick gave her.
Longtime fans of this genre know that any deceased character can return for various reasons as long as the actor who played the role is alive.
Sometimes, based on stock footage, that is unnecessary, with a wink to when a seemingly living image of Katherine Chancellor (Jeanne Cooper) was used in Chancellor Park.
The writing staff has developed a creative way to include Ashby in the show. The darkness of the imagined Cameron’s intentions is apparent.
Sharon certainly is being negatively affected in the last part of this summer. Cameron’s voice tells her to reexamine the people she still feels wronged by.
Nick could become a target. But the woman who tore them apart, Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford), seems more likely. Sharon could also use Daniel Romalotti (Michael Graziadei) and Lucy Romalotti (Lily Brooks O’Briant) as targets to punish Phyllis.
Hopefully, Sharon doesn’t do anything that can’t be reversed. Whatever happens, she appears destined to force Cameron out of her mind whenever the crescendo builds, and the climax arrives.
