Beneath the surface, Billy might already have an inkling of the truth, even if he’s reluctant to accept it; he doesn’t really want his suspicions confirmed. His love for Chelsea makes the thought of her being unfaithful with Adam incredibly hard to bear and painful.

Perhaps this is why Billy is complicating things, turning it into a grand mystery rather than simply confronting the situation and asking if the two exes were intimate.

In a real-world scenario, most people in Billy’s shoes would likely be questioning whether Adam and Chelsea had a fling in Maryland. But since this is a soap opera, the writers have crafted a scenario that pushes Billy to search for the truth more intensely.

Billy is determined to find out the truth, so we should look at his choices; he’s having trouble getting Chelsea and Adam to confess, so he might try a different approach.

He might create a distraction to slip something under Adam’s desk or in another spot to catch future talks with Chelsea.
