Yellowstone fans know that Kevin Costner is working and producing his upcoming project, Horizon: An American Saga.
Meanwhile, does that mean that we won’t see more of him in the final episodes of season 5? There have been major tensions between the Bodyguard star and Yellowstone’s boss, Taylor Sheridan. However, the mega-star of the hit modern Western drama has finally spoken up.
Rumors state that Kevin Costner won’t be seen in the final episodes of Yellowstone. Now, Costner has opened up a bit about the final season of Yellowstone. Speaking with Entertainment Tonight at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Costner said, “I’d like to be able to do it, but we haven’t been able to – I’m not sure how it’s being worked out.” Moreover, Costner added:
I’ve loved making that series. I made five seasons of it. I thought I was going to make seven [seasons] but right now we’re at five. So how it works out – I hope it does – but they’ve got a lot of different shows going on.
As fans already know, Paramount Network has already announced a spinoff of Yellowstone starring iconic Hollywood star, Matthew McConaughey, a move that will no doubt be enjoyed by fans.
However, according to several cast members, the production of the final episodes of Yellowstone is not yet in the works. Speaking to ET about the final episodes, Costner also said:
Maybe this will circle back to me. If it does, and I feel really comfortable with [it], I’d love to do it.
Fans will recall that part 1 or season 5 saw Costner’s character, John Dutton, fighting with his son Jamie (Wes Bentley), who wants to expel his father from the governor’s office.
Meanwhile, it was previously rumored that the Dances With Wolves star would likely not return for part 2 of season 5.
Talk of a feud between Costner and production swirled as Yellowstone episodes were delayed. Moreover, like many shoes, more delays were caused by the WGA Writers’ strike.
On top of the delays, Costner also fueled controversy while he was battling his former wife, Christine Baumgartner over her filing of divorce papers.
Moreover, the John Dutton star apparently took issue with the additional production time that was necessary, as he was working on his dream project, Horizon, set to premiere this summer.
When he was in court, Costner revealed that he had been offered $24 million to shoot seasons 5, 6, and 7 of the modern Western show before scheduling conflicts took place.
Meanwhile, Costner shared what he envisions for his character in the final episodes, where he dreamed that his character, John Dutton would ride off into the sunset. However, he isn’t sure if Sheridan would follow that direction.
Speaking to ET about the final episodes, Costner said:
Well, you know, he needs to be proactive in what happens. And I’ve kind of had my own fantasy how it might be, but that’s Taylor’s thing. I said as much to him, you know, a while back. Maybe he doesn’t remember. I had thoughts how it could happen, but we just have to see.
