Prince William Gets “Nostalgic” Visiting RAF Valley And Touring the Royal Airforce Station

From 2010 to 2013, Prince William worked as a helicopter pilot. During that time, he helped save some people involved in an accident that need emergency treatment as a search and rescue pilot.

Years later, William returned back to his old base on July 9 and can’t help but be filled with memories. The weather was a rainy one that day, prompting William to describe it as “typical Anglesey weather.” In fact the rain and wind made the visit so nostalgic he proclaimed that “It wouldn’t feel like home if I wasn’t back here on a day like this.”

It was his first visit to the north Wales base since he was appointed Air Commodore by his father in August 2023.

The RAF is the only Royal Air Force station in Wales, and it is tasked with training the next generation of fighter pilots as well as preparing aircrew for mountain and maritime operations around the world.

The Prince of Wales used the opportunity to tour the place and chat with personnel to learn about the work they do on a daily basis.

He also reportedly asked them about life at the RAF Valley, which happens to be the second biggest employer on the island. He furthermore greeted the families of the people stationed there.

During the visit, he also got to hear about the ongoing $56 million project to refurbish the base’s second runway, alongside taking part in a simulation that saw him rescue a burning plane.

Before presenting the annual Prince of Wales award, he spent time with engineers, flight instructors and trainees. The annual prize recognizes the best Flying Instructor within the No. 4, and this year, Flight Lieutenant Jake Fleming received the award.

By the way, he didn’t leave empty-handed, as the RAF family gifted him with his very own cup with his name on it.
