What Queen Elizabeth Disapproved Of In Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Wedding

Imagine it’s 2018 and a royal wedding is in the horizon. Royal fans are buzzing with excitement, and the soon-to-be newly weds, in this case Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, are running around to see to the finishing touches to their big day.

Yes, at the time, there had been controversies too. Like the bridesmaids’ dresses and who made who cry and all that. There were also rumors that the Queen had refused to let Meghan wear a precious family tiara for the momentous occasion and that it had ticked Harry off.

But the new revelation has to do with the veil Meghan Markle opted to wear for her big day. Queen Elizabeth the II, a stickler for tradition no doubt, didn’t quite get why a divorced woman would choose to walk down the aisle wearing a veil.

Queen Elizabeth the II Didn’t Understand Why Meghan Markle Wanted To Wear A Veil For Her Wedding With Prince Harry

According to Tom Bower, the late Queen Elizabeth was quite annoyed with Meghan Markle’s decision to wear a veil for her wedding. “The Queen also questioned why Meghan needed a veil for the wedding, given it was to be her second marriage,” Bower wrote.

Her choice of a white bridal gown was also something that took the Queen aback, since Meghan was a divorcee. The former actress was previously married to Hollywood film producer Trevor Engelson between 2011 and 2013.

In contrast to Meghan’s choices, Queen Camilla kept to tradition by not wearing a white gown at her 2005 wedding with King Charles due to her previous marriage to Andrew Parker-Bowles.

What Meghan Markle Has Said About Her Wedding Dress

While some opined that Meghan Markle’s gorgeous wedding train could have used one more fitting, the Duchess believes that what she got on her big day was exactly her dream gown.

“I had a very clear vision of what I wanted for the day and what I wanted the dress to look like,” Meghan previously said of the dress that took 50 people 3,900 hours to complete. “So what was amazing in working with Clare [Waight Keller] is that sometimes you’ll find designers try to push you in a different direction.”

She added: “But she just completely respected what I wanted to see for the day, and she wanted to bring that to life for me.”

The dress came with a 16ft-long veil with trimmed lace that depicted flora from each of the 53 Commonwealth countries for the service at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. Queen Elizabeth lent Meghan Queen Mary’s diamond bandeau tiara, made in 1932, to hold the veil in place.
