Through the years since marrying Prince Andrew and entering the spotlight, the Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, has often struggled financially.
This financial struggles have often seen her make unsavory decisions, and one of them could have easily doomed Prince Andrew.

Even before exiting the Royal Family in 1996, the Duchess had been scandal prone.
In 1992, she was exiled from the Royal Family’s trusted circle when a picture of her and American financial adviser Steve Wyatt emerged casting doubts over her fidelity.
That same year, she returned to the front pages when another scandalous picture emerged. In the picture, Texan millionaire John Bryan was seen sucking her toes as she sunbathed topless while on holiday.
While Prince Harry and Meghan Markle seem to be the new family pariahs, Sarah Ferguson was the OG.
After her divorce from Andrew, she managed to retain her Duchess of York title, probably as a gift since she shares two daughters with the recently disgraced Duke.
But that was not all the drama the Royal Family had from her quarters. Way before Harry and Meghan decided to run to Oprah to cry foul, Sarah had already done that.
But despite her attempt to stay in the spotlight and earn money off it, she still managed to descend into financial trouble in 2010 – even though her divorce settlement from Andrew amounted to over $3 million.
To keep abreast of her lifestyle, she signed on to become a US representative for Weight Watchers, as well as becoming an after-dinner speaker. The role reportedly made her more than $40,000 per gig.
Later on, she represented Waterford Wedgwood as a spokesperson in the US in a deal that was worth over $500,000 for a 12-month contract with the luxury tableware brand.
Despite this, in 2009, Hartmoor, her US lifestyle and wellness firm, folded with more than $600,000 in debts.

However, everything came to a head in 2010 when it was revealed that she promised to gain information on her ex-husband, Prince Andrew, for the press for the sweet price of $500,000.
When the news came out, she apologized, calling it a “lapse in judgement.”
These days, she’s doing her best to tone down the drama in her life. The only drama she occasionally stirs up exists comfortably in her historical romance novels.
