Royal Source Refutes Prince Harry’s Claim that King Charles Was An Unloving Father

In “Spare,” Prince Harry defined a father that couldn’t even hug him when he related to him news of his mother’s death.

He also didn’t remember going on bicycle rides with his father or having some of those father-son moments that stays with one all through their lives. In a podcast interview, he blamed it all on “generational pain” and tried to log his father’s treatment of him as what he learnt growing up.

However, a royal expert just revealed that he never saw Charles except as a loving father to his two sons.

Writing in “Spare,” Harry described a father that didn’t quite fit into the role of a father, much less a single parent. He wrote: “He’d always given an air of not being quite ready for parenthood: the responsibilities, the patience, the time. Even he, though a proud man, would have admitted as much. But single-parenthood? Pa was never made for that. To be fair, he tried.”

While some accounts in “Spare” have been challenged, the “unloving” father narrative has pretty much walked the line without any or much contention, until now, that is.

Speaking to royal editor Matt Wilkinson for The Sun’s show Royal Exclusive, royal reporter Charles Rae revealed Harry was “wrong” to paint such a picture of his father.

“This is why one of the things Harry said in his book Spare about his father was so so wrong,” he said. “I watched the then Prince with his children and he was as loving to those boys as was Diana. Diana was much more extrovert.”

Charles Rae then recalled being present when Prince William and Harry arrived at the Royal Britannia to meet their parents.

“Diana and Charles had just finished a job…Diana walks up the gangplank, Charles is very polite, he stands there and says ‘hello’ to the captain, first officer and cook.”

He recalled: “Diana ignores them all and runs practically down the gangplank with her arms wide open and the boys rushed up to her – and that’s the picture that made the newspapers all over the world.”
