He sold his Connecticut home to move to Madrid to be closer to Alejandra’s family and to immerse himself in her Spanish heritage.
Richard Gere makes a major move to Madrid, Spain
Richard Gere, 75, has made a major lifestyle change by relocating from the US to Spain to open a new life chapter with his family in Madrid. Gere and his wife Alejandro Silva share two boys, Alexander, five and James, four. Meanwhile, his wife also has a son, Albert, 11, from a previous relationship.
Gere recently sold his Connecticut estate for around €10.2 million ($10.9 million), a little less than the €10.3 million ($11 million) he paid for it. However, that doesn’t worry the American Gigolo star as he wants to immerse himself in his wife, Alejandra’s Spanish heritage and to be close to her family in Madrid.
The Pretty Woman star married Silva in 2018, and shares two sons with her, Alexander, five, and James, four. Alejandra also has an 11-year-old son, Albert, from a previous relationship. Gere now wants to offer his children a culturally rich life in Spain.
Speaking to Vanity Fair Spain, Gere explained his enthusiasm over the move to Spain, saying:
For me, going to Madrid is going to be a great adventure because I have never lived full-time outside of the United States.
Meanwhile, the move also supports his wife, Alejandra by reuniting with her Spanish roots since living in the US for the past six years.
Luxury mansion in Madrid for the Gere family
Richard and Alejandra and the children are moving into their new home, a luxurious mansion in the exclusive La Moraleja neighborhood in Madrid. The property boasts 10,000 sq m of land, with a spacious three-story house, a heated pool and a private wine cellar. The Geres invested €11 million ($11.8 million) in their new sprawling property, a comfortable home for the couple and the three children.
Meanwhile, the An Officer and a Gentleman star is focusing on the quiet life, spending time with the Silva and their children and her wider family by embracing the Spanish culture.
Other Hollywood stars who moved to Spain
Spain is clearly becoming the place to be for Hollywood stars seeking a slower pace of life, as Antonio Banderas made the move back to his home in Málaga some years ago. The actor now balances his Hollywood career with Spanish film projects and directing theater in the city.
Meanwhile, Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones also have a home in Mallorca, Spain where they like to chill out and get away from it all in the Mediterranean relaxed vibe and delicious Spanish cuisine. Come back here often for all your Celebrity news and updates.
