Nicholl thinks Harry’s absence was brought on solely by him, though she claimed it must be “pretty stomach-clenching” for him to watch the event, knowing he’s not a part of it.
The recent D-day celebrations was an emotional one, in more ways than one. For one thing, the King was said to have attended the event immediately after receiving his cancer treatments.
And while Prince William attended this year’s celebrations solo, his powerful speech did not fail to move the audience.
Absent from the memorable occasion was Prince Harry, despite his continued work with the military through his Invictus Games.
Speaking on his absence from the grand occasion attended by thousands, Katie Nicholl told Matt Wilkinson on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive show that he must have been disappointed he couldn’t be part of the day’s celebrations.
“Every time we cover the Cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday, if there’s anyone that’s earned the right to be there and to lay a wreath, it’s Prince Harry because he fought for his Queen and his country in Afghanistan twice,” she said.
“And I can only imagine, and we was talking about how happy is out in Montecito and I believe he is, he’ll be watching those D-Day commemorations.”
She continued: “He was a soldier for a big part of his life as we know through the Invictus community and I think it’s a pretty stomach-clenching moment for him where it’s that realisation that despite what he did, he wasn’t a part of this because he’s not a part of the working class Royal Family.”
Prince Harry’s Was Absent From D-Day Due To Burned Bridges With the Royals, Expert Says
During Katie Nicholl’s chat with The Sun’s Matt Wilkinson, Wilkinson pointed out that Harry’s absence was a direct result of his fallout with the Royal Family.
“They are, they are,” she said. “Currently, we don’t know whether he did anything in Montecito, but if he did, he didn’t do anything publicly.”
She then recalled that one Remembrance Sunday he and Meghan celebrated publicly following their departure from the Royal Family and how it was received by the public.
“And you’ll remember that one Remembrance Sunday when him and Meghan were photographed laying a wreath and that backfired on them so badly,” she said. “So I think they’ve learned from things like that so it must’ve been a hard moment for him to watch these two days of commemorations in Normandy and in Britain and know that just like being a solider, he wasn’t a part of it.”
