Queen Camilla And Princess Kate To Receive Duty Formerly Reserved For Blood Royals

Queen Camilla And Princess Kate To Receive Duty Formerly Reserved For Blood RoyalsIn bid to spread the load of royal duties now that King Charles is undergoing treatments for his cancer, a source has revealed that the King means to change centuries old tradition.

At the moment, only royals by birthright are allowed to hand out investitures, but King Charles is reportedly looking to extend it past himself, his heir Prince William and Princess Anne.

Princess Catherine’s Popularity Makes Her A Good Fit For This Royal Duty

Charles’ slimmed-down monarchy is reportedly set to undergo a lot of changes, including who and who cannot give out honors during investitures.

For the uninitiated, investiture is a day when those who have been awarded an honor for their contributions or otherwise receives the honor in person at a royal residence, though more frequently held at Buckingham Palace.

The ceremony is conducted by a member of the Royal Family. Types of investiture include, but are not limited to MBEs, OBEs, knighthoods and awards for gallantry.

“Queen Camilla has proved herself to be a really hard-working and dutiful spouse to the King, and who wouldn’t want to be handed a gong by the Princess of Wales?

There is a feeling that they have both earned it and it might prove a very popular change,” the insider added.

A typical calendar year sees the royals hand out over 30 investitures, which amount to around 2,600 honorees per year.

These honorees are typically invited to Buckingham Palace or Windsor Castle, as well as in their royal residences located at Scotland and Northern Ireland.

One source said: “There were preliminary discussions in the Jubilee year about increasing the number of senior royals who undertook investitures… that’s when they first looked at adding Camilla and Catherine.”

However, the plan isn’t exactly backed up by all monarchists, with one reportedly saying, “In my opinion, they should be performed by members of the Royal Family in direct line of succession.”

At the moment, Kensington Palace is yet to comment on the news.

This comes after a source previously disclosed that the King means to give Princess Kate the power to assign royal grants.

It was said to be influenced by the royal’s shining popularity and the global effect she has as a fashion icon.
