Princess Diana may have tragically died at the age of 36 in 1997, but her huge impact on the lives of many and her charitable efforts is something that keeps her fondly in people’s memories.
Even though both her sons, William and Harry, are finding their own ways to honor their mother’s legacy, royal expert Phil Dampier seems to think Harry isn’t doing enough.
How Prince William Is Honoring His Late Mother’s Legacy In A Big Way
When it comes to keeping Princess Diana’s memory alive, both her sons are champions of it. However, Prince William seems to have outpaced his brother by becoming deeply involved in issues relating to homelessness.
In his ITV1 and ITVX documentary, William shared that his mother was keen to expose them to the idea that not everybody was as fortunate as they were from a very young age.
He recalled going to The Passage – a homeless charity – with his mother and younger brother at a young age. Seeing first-hand the undesirable condition motivated him to stick to the frontlines and dedicate his mind and energy towards riding the country of it.
He doesn’t come as a politician, or with any other goal, other than completely eradicating homelessness from modern day Britain. This is a huge undertaking, no doubt, and one even he himself admitted his mother would think “mad.”
For years, he sold copies of the ‘Big Issue’ with homeless people, as he sought to better understand the reason for it and what solution methods there might be.
How Princess Diana Inspired Prince William’s Latest Venture
Royal expert and journalist Phil Dampier believes William is making his mother proud by taking on this issue and seeking to solve it.
He said: “She was determined to show them that not everybody lived in palaces, and not everybody was born with a silver spoon in their mouth. Diana let them sleep rough overnight when they were younger, to show them what it was actually like.”
Speaking on the media’s speculation that William offered Harry an “olive branch” by mentioning him in documentary, he admitted it isn’t likely.“It’s been seen by some as an olive branch to Harry because he’s mentioned him for the first time in six years in this documentary.
I don’t see it that myself. I think the rift between them is still as wide as ever, unfortunately.”
“They both could have done so much good for something which she was very anxious for them to to do and so I’m sure she’d be absolutely devastated,” he concluded.
