No, he actually wants to put all his energy towards ending the undesirable human situation, from building houses on royal lands to opening our minds to the issue that is homelessness via an upcoming documentary. Here’s what we know about it.
When William was a teenager, his mother took him to spend one day in the streets and introduced him to several homeless people so that he can be able to relate to the condition.
She also took him and younger brother Harry to see homeless shelters, and you can best believe it had a lasting impact on the person William turned out to be.
Due to this drive, he became a patron of Centrepoint – a homeless charity – and has since made several moves to reduce, if not entirely cut off, the homeless situation in the UK.
Not only that, but together with the Royal Foundation, he founded Homewards in June 2023, with the aim to not only spotlight, but build across sites in the UK. Its scale is expected to have a nationwide reach, making it one of the biggest charities devoted to the cause worldwide.
And now, he’ll be stepping in front of the cameras for the two part documentary: “Prince William: We Can End Homelessness.”
The series will be helmed by BAFTA award-winning director Leo Burley, who said in a statement: “Over the past year we have spent time following Prince William and The Royal Foundation through the first year of the Homewards program. We’ve heard some incredibly moving stories from people across the country facing homelessness.”
He continued: “From street homelessness in Newport, to families living in temporary accommodation in Sheffield, and youth homelessness in Aberdeen, the documentary paints a picture of homelessness across the UK today, working with many people who never expected to experience life without a place to call home. Everyone we’ve filmed with has welcomed the spotlight that Prince William and Homewards are placing on the UK’s homelessness crisis.”
It will give viewers an indepth look on the first year of the five-year initiative, as work continues across six locations: Aberdeen, Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, Lambeth, Newport, Northern Ireland, and Sheffield. The documentary will air on ITV1 and ITVX this fall.
Like his mother before him, William has also started to educate his children on the issue of homelessness.
