Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will not be joining the royal family at Balmoral Castle this summer, as they have not received an invitation from King Charles, according to multiple sources reported by People.
This decision comes amid a period of strained relations, with Charles no longer speaking to Harry.
Earlier reports indicated that Harry and Meghan were also excluded from the Trooping the Colour event this year.
Meanwhile, Catherine, the Princess of Wales, will join Prince William and their children for a summer retreat to Balmoral, as per the Mail on Sunday.
In June, Catherine shared an update on her ongoing chemotherapy treatment, mentioning that while she has good and bad days, she remains optimistic and continues to engage with school life and personal activities whenever possible.
Prince Harry’s relationship with his father has reached a new low, exacerbated by disagreements over security issues and lingering distrust following the publication of Harry’s memoir.
An insider told Entertainment Tonight, “Prince Harry’s relationship with his father has deteriorated to a new low level. Their rift is not only tied to security but also the family’s distrust of Harry and Meghan.”
Harry, who now resides in California with Meghan and their children, expressed his love for his family during an interview with ABC News’ Will Reeve, acknowledging that illnesses can sometimes reunite families.
However, despite his efforts to maintain contact, the gap between him and his father remains wide.
In her message for the opening of new gardens at the Natural History Museum of London, Catherine emphasized the power of nature in supporting well-being, illustrating the ongoing connection between the royal family and their public duties amidst personal challenges.
Harry has been particularly focused on regaining police protection for his family during their visits to the U.K. Since stepping back from their senior royal roles in 2020, the couple lost this privilege.
Harry’s attempt to secure the right to pay for this protection in court was unsuccessful, and he plans to appeal the decision.
He believes his father could intervene, with one royal source stating, “Harry is frightened [for his family’s safety in the U.K.] and feels the only person who can do anything about it is his father.”
A friend of Harry’s shared that Charles has generally been unresponsive to Harry’s attempts to contact him. “He gets ‘unavailable right now,’” the source said, noting that Harry’s calls about the King’s health have also gone unanswered.
Another source offered insight into Meghan’s viewpoint, revealing, “She wants him to be free of all of this, but she also knows that because of everything he’s been through and his love for [her and their children], he can’t. She wants him to live in a world where he is not burdened by this.”
