Prince Harry and Meghan's Tour of Colombia Could Overshadow Work Done By Real Royals

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams believes Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will use the opportunity that two senior royals are mostly out of the spotlight and recovering from cancer to try and shift the focus to themselves.

And with a foreign travel on the horizon, the possibility of garnering more media attention will be simpler.

Royal Family Not Doing Anything That Attracts Attention On the Same Level

Harry and Meghan toured Nigeria in May and heaped praise on the West African country.

They further shared their desire to tour more often and promote their charities, Archewell Foundation and Invictus Games, by meeting people. They followed this promise up by announcing their tour of Colombia on August 1.

In his interview with The Sun about the couple’s latest exploits, he talked about some of the ways their so-called faux royal tours could cause problems to the Royal Family.

Mr Fitzwilliams told The Sun: “The problem with Royal Family at the moment is that they are simply not able to do something which attracts attention on the same level – and attention is important if you’re royal.”

“There’s little doubt there is a vacuum. One’s really talking about really high profile royals.
“Of course, the Princess Royal and the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and others do sterling work and carry out visits abroad.”

The 74-year-old royal expert continued: “But they are not particularly high profile and I don’t think they particularly want to be. The institution does need this oxygen. There’s also no doubt that Harry and Meghan discovered this in what I would describe as their faux royal tour to Nigeria.”

With their popularity set to increase with the tours, the royal expert fears they would be more at liberty to take potshots at the Royal Family.

He said: “They’ve shown in the last couple of weeks they’re not afraid to bring up material that would embarrass the Royal Family or refer to rifts with it. And that’s only a step away from overtly criticising it. They would say that they’re doing their own thing in a way they feel they are best able to do it.”
