Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s tour of Colombia has drawn criticisms ever since it was announced.
The main point has always been that it seems counterintuitive for Harry and Meghan to make this travel at the height of their security battle with UK’s Home Office, since Colombia has a travel warning due to its history of gangs and drug trafficking.
However, if you asked royal expert Victoria Murphy, she’ll tell you that the Sussexes trip to the South American country is “baffling,” to say the least.
Victoria Murphy Says She’s Baffled By Harry And Meghan’s Decision to Tour Colombia
In May, Prince Harry and Meghan traveled to West Africa for a three-day trip in Nigeria that saw them visiting schools and basketball courts.
Following the tour, the couple heaped praise on the country and promised to make themselves available to travel more in order to promote their Invictus Games and Archewell Foundation charities.
Months later, Harry and Meghan announced their planned tour of Colombia, promising to champion internet safety during the trip. Weighing in on this during her latest chat with The Sun, royal expert Victoria Murphy revealed that the tour was a “little bit baffling.”
She told The Sun: “They have to have their own reasons to be saying yes to this, and I think it is a little bit baffling in comparison to Nigeria.”
She added: “When they went to Nigeria it was very clear that was an Invictus focused trip, I think there was a clear purpose for that trip. And, Meghan had discovered that she was 43 per cent Nigerian so it made sense, and also Harry’s long term in African countries, and the charity work he’s done on the continent already.”
“This just feels slightly random and yes we’re talking about themes they’re going to focus on, but it’s quite vague on exactly how they’re going to and why they’ve chosen Colombia to highlight those themes. One of the things is the conference in November, for child safety, which is obviously really important, but I’m still not sure what it has to do with them.”
Hinting that she doesn’t quite understand the long-term benefit of their tour, she added, “They’re not going to the conference, it would make sense if they were. But they’re not and I don’t think they’re going to have any presence at the conference, I don’t understand why it’s being mentioned in connection with their visit.”
