Prince Edward And Princess Sophie Step In For King Charles At This Important Event

It was a historic moment when Prince Edward and wife Sophie represented the King at an important Buckingham Palace event.

It not only marked the couple’s first ever major royal engagement, but it signified a shift from Charles’ proposed slimmed-down monarchy.

The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh Gets Upgraded Roles Within the Monarchy As King Charles Recovers From Cancer

Predictably, the monarchy was thrown into disarray when King Charles and Princess Kate were diagnosed with cancer and began undertaking treatments at roughly the same time, leaving them unable to attend public-facing duties.

However, Charles is not lacking in royals willing and ready to step up to aid the institution through these challenging times.

On Monday, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh surprised the world and sent royalists spiraling when they hosted a Buckingham Palace event that would naturally have been hosted by the King and Queen.

The event marked the 120th anniversary of the Entente Cordiale, an agreement between countries united against German ambitions in the decade before World War One.

The fact that the pair hosted a gathering that saw the likes of Her Excellency, the French Ambassador to the U.K., Hélène Duchêne, in attendance shows that the King is ready to raise the profiles of the couple within the Monarchy.

According to US Weekly, a number of royal watchers turned up to see who might step in for the King that April 8, with some speculating Queen Camilla might turn up solo like she has been doing recently.

Others thought it could be Princess Beatrice or Princess Eugenie, since it would be a positive step for the monarchy to incorporate younger people into its working system.

However, when Prince Edward and Sophie stepped out for the engagement, all mouths could have almost dropped opened by how unexpected the choice was.

Nevertheless, the couple were up to the task and arrived beaming. Sophie notably made a touching gesture to her husband by showing up in a pale blue dress and beige coat, which she paired with a sparkling aquamarine floral earrings that she was first seen wearing at an event to mark their 10th wedding anniversary.

Henceforth, let no one ever tell you that an Edward and a Sophie can’t save the day.
