Palace Could Find Itself In A Tight Spot If UK Wins Bid To Host Prince Harry’s Invictus Games In 2027

Palace Could Find Itself In A Tight Spot If UK Wins Bid To Host Prince Harry's Invictus Games In 2027In May, Prince Harry will return to the UK to celebrate the tenth anniversary of his beloved Invictus Games. Meghan Markle is penciled in as a guest, but her attendance is still TBC.

As the sporting event grows and more countries get to participate, the UK is said to be locked in with the US in a bidding war to host the 2027 games.

There’s only one little hitch for the homeland and it’s that the royal family hasn’t supported the cause for years now. So, what now?

Royal Expert Says UK Hosting Invictus Games May Put the Royal Family In An Awkward Situation

A lot of royal experts are hopeful that Harry and, possibly, Meghan’s return to the UK in May could open up a chance for the family to reconnect and heal their rift.

As he prepares to head home for the Invictus Games anniversary service at St Paul’s Cathedral – fun fact, it’s where King Charles and Princess Diana got married in 1981 – the speculations regarding who he may or may not see are beginning to pick up steam.

If in fact they do not reunite ahead of the 2027 Games and let’s say Birmingham won the bid to host the game, the Daily Mail reports that it would put the royal family in a “difficult situation.”

“It is an incredibly important piece of work for Prince Harry and one of his last remaining legacies from when he was a full-time working royal—and one which he feels very proud of,”

The outlet reports. “The Games also allow him to reconnect with fellow military veterans.”

While Prince William and Princess Kate were among the key figures in establishing the global sporting event for veterans in 2014, they have apparently had very little to do with it since Harry and Meghan stepped down as members of the Royal Family.

So even though William and Kate are “delighted that it has been a success,” they will keep keeping away from the games due to the rift. “Given current disagreements in the royal family, it is perhaps not likely that the Waleses will watch the games with the Sussexes.”
