Fans of the iconic Netflix series Squid Game can now start getting excited for season 2, set to premiere later this year.

Netflix has announced the premiere date of Squid Game season 2 in December 2024, along with the news that the final season of the deadly game is coming in 2025.

Meanwhile, Hwang Dong-hyuk, director, writer and executive producer of Squid Game wrote in a letter:

It’s been almost three years since Season 1 was met with incredible response around the world and many unimaginable events took place. I am beyond excited to be writing this letter to announce the date for Season 2 and share the news of Season 3, the final season.

On the first day we began shooting Season 2, I remember thinking, “Wow, I can’t believe I’m back in the world of Squid Game.” It almost felt surreal. I wonder how it will feel for you to be back in Squid Game after three years, as well.

To be honest, we’re pretty sure worldwide fans of the iconic and scary series will also find it both surreal and exciting that the show is returning to the small screen.

What can we expect from season 2?

Fans will recall that Seong Gi-hun vowed revenge over the deaths of his fellow players at the end of season 1. Now, he is set to return to the show for season 2, and will hopefully get revenge.

Meanwhile, Front Man looks to be a challenging opponent again this time. With all the tensions, the two worlds are set to collide in a fierce clash. While season 2 is coming in December, fans will have to wait longer for the third and final season to air in 2025.

According to The Futon Critic, the director said, “I am thrilled to see the seed that was planted in creating a new Squid Game grow and bear fruit through the end of this story,” adding:

We’ll do our best to make sure we bring you yet another thrill ride. I hope you’re excited for what’s to come. Thank you, always, and see you soon, everyone.

Meanwhile, Netflix has released a teaser trailer with the premiere date and final season announcement. As can be seen, this race is much different from those held at the Paris Olympics 2024!

Squid Game season 2 is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on December 26, 2024, as a late Christmas present.
