Mike Flanagan is renowned for his horror TV shows and is once again teaming up with Stephen King for an adaptation of Carrie.

Carrie was Stephen King’s first published book and nearly didn’t happen. However, after he threw it into the garbage, his lovely wife, Tabitha King, rescued it and encouraged him to publish the terrifying book. Of course, there have been many more King books published, and while may be in the past, horror maestro Mike Flanagan is returning to Stephen King’s world to adapt Carrie as a series on the small screen.

Mike Flanagan to adapt Stephen King’s Carrie as an Amazon TV series

Admittedly, Stephen King fans will feel a little trepidation over the adaptation of the author’s popular book, as many have not done his work justice. However, in this case, Mike Flanagan will be at the helm and his work is pretty much always a success.

One of Flanagan’s most recent success stories is The Fall of the House of Usher – a totally terrifying series that became a major hit. Now, he is set to put his own spin on Carrie as an eight-episode series for Amazon.

Meanwhile, the latest project is part of an overall deal between Flanagan’s Intrepid Pictures and Amazon MGM Studios. Flanagan will write the series and will executive produce it with his regular partner, Trevor Macy.

About King’s novel Carrie

Carrie was released in 1974 and launched King as a horror author. The book tells the story of Carrie White, an outcast from an abusive religious household who discovers she has telekinetic powers. She eventually turns on her hometown of Chamberlain, Maine when an attempt to make up for the endless bullying devolves into a vicious prank that finally pushes Carrier over the edge.

King’s novel has already had one successful adaptation in the 1976 classic movie starring Sissy Spacek as the titular Carrie.

About the adaptation

Meanwhile, according to Deadline, Flanagan’s work on the Carrie series is coming fast with a writers’ room ready for the show. Moreover, having successfully brought King’s The Life of Chuck, Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep to the screen, fans will doubtlessly be impatient for the series to launch.

The logline for the Carrie series describes it as a “bold and timely reimagining” of Carrie’s life under her overbearing religious mother. This picks up after her father’s untimely death as she “finds herself contending with the alien landscape of public High School, a bullying scandal that shatters her community, and the emergence of mysterious telekinetic powers.Carrie, ”
