Meghan Markle Showed In Nigeria She Does Not Want To Stick To Royal Protocol

When it comes to royal dressing, Meghan Markle has made it clear that she wants no part of it. As she and husband Prince Harry landed in Nigeria for what has been termed a “faux-royal tour,” she stepped out in an incredibly chic frock to greet the locals.

Meghan Markle is perhaps giving the Royal Family tips in royal dressing by the clothes she’s chosen to wear for the tour.

To greet the locals on day one, Meghan stunned in a long dress from California lifestyle brand Heidi Merrick, whose design ethos is to ‘‘infuse feminine style with the tangible and the ethereal, capturing vulnerability and strength of women.”

Even though it’s on the cheap-end of what one usually expects from a royal wardrobe – £450 – it really delivered with its flowing tiered skirt and a fitted front bodice with geometric linear cutout back detail.

The dress did have a little zest to it with its backless feature, though it’s not visible on all angles.

Meghan Markle’s Dress Choice Is A Bold Move Away From Royal Dressing

Speaking on Meghan Markle’s outfit of choice, fashion editor Amber Graafland observed that “the revealing dress choice was a million miles from the carefully choreographed outfits of previous royal tours.”

One of those ways her outfit of choice differs from the average royal wardrobe was how it was off the peg and not custom-made.

“Most royal tour outfits are planned months in advance. Working closely with each individual designer, and in collaboration with image consultants, attention is paid to every tiny detail.”
Graafland said that a great level of care is often given to the outfits a royal wears because they tend to “convey subtle messages that nod to the host country.”

This lengthy and careful process usually involves ”monitoring” hemlines, ensuring the fabrics are “meticulously thought through,” with formality being at the forefront of all these considerations.

“However, day one of the Sussex’s tour and it’s resoundingly clear that the couple have no intention of sticking to protocol.”

As a result of this, Graafland believes Meghan, 42, has been released from the constraints her sister-in-law is still under.
