The movies based on J.K. Rowling’s books about Harry Potter were a huge success with fans. Now, they can look forward to seeing more of their favorite characters in a TV series on Max. However, while it is officially going ahead, fans will have to wait until at least 2026 for the show to debut.

Harry Potter TV show to air on Max

According to Warner Bros. Discovery boss, David Zaslav, he recently met with J.K. Rowling in London to discuss the new series based on her novels. After the talk, the TV series is going ahead, with Warner Bros. Discovery now setting a 2026 debut for the much-longed for series to air.

The latest news was revealed on Friday by Zaslav, during his company’s fourth-quarter earnings call. Speaking of Warner Bros. Discovery’s franchise strategy, he expressed his excitement, saying:

We’ve not been shy about our excitement around Harry Potter. The last film was made more than a dozen years ago.

Meeting with J.K. Rowling in London

Zaslav went on to say that he had a meeting with Harry Potter creator, J.K. Rowlings a few weeks ago in London. He said he was in London with Casey (Bloys, HBO and Max boss) and Channing (Dungey, WBD TV boss). Moreover, they spent some “real-time with J.K. and her team,” adding:

Both sides are thrilled to be reigniting this franchise. Our conversations were great, and we couldn’t be more excited about what’s ahead. We can’t wait to share a decade of new stories with fans around the world on Max.

As noted by the Hollywood Reporter, development on the new series started in 2021 and Warner Bros. Discovery gave the show the green light last year. Meanwhile, it was said that the plan is to develop seasons of the series based on all of Rowling’s books, spreading over 10 years.
