King Charles Cuts New Zealand From Autumn Tour Following Doctor’s Warning

King Charles Cuts New Zealand From Autumn Tour Following Doctor's WarningWhile there are many places that King Charles would no doubt love to visit now that he is finally the monarch – he waited 70 years for it – his advanced age and his cancer diagnosis, which was made earlier this year, prevent him from doing it.

Even though we were happy when the King officially returned to public duties in April, we did know that he wouldn’t function at his best and that he would continue to pace himself.
Here’s what we know about the reasons the New Zealand leg of his autumn tour was removed.

Buckingham Palace Shares News That King Charles Won’t Be Visiting New Zealand During Upcoming Tour

With King Charles’ cancer treatment still ongoing, the monarch has been advised to embark on a more concise tour to avoid straining his health.

This meant that the New Zealand part of the tour had to be removed. Come October, however, and King Charles and Queen Camilla will visit Samoa and Australia.

The visit to Samoa will see them celebrate “the strong bilateral relationship” currently existing between the Pacific Island nation and the UK. The couple are further expected to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (Chogm) 2024.

During the Australian leg of their tour, they will engage in visiting key places in the Australian Capital Territory and New South Wales.

Even though his team had planned to include a trip to New Zealand in the mix, they eventually had to relent based on the medical team’s feedback about the King’s health.

Buckingham Palace said: “In close consultation with the Australian and New Zealand prime ministers, and with due regard for the pressures of time and logistics, it has therefore been agreed to limit the visit to Samoa and Australia only.”

“Their Majesties send their warmest thanks and good wishes to all parties for their continued support and understanding.”

Further details of the visit to both countries is expected to be announced sometime before the trip is meant to take place.
