Prince William stepped up for his father King Charles when the latter was diagnosed with cancer shortly after undergoing prostate surgery.
However, now that King Charles is much-recovered and back to public-facing duties, there’s rumors of an internal struggle with his son and heir William.
Source Says King Charles and Prince William’s Dynamic Has “Drastically” Changed Over Talks of Succession
King Charles spent seventy years of his life waiting to become the monarch – little known fact: he’s actually the longest serving heir in recorded history – so you can imagine that now that he’s the monarch, he’d want to enjoy it and make any impact he’s always dreamed of making whenever he occupied that position.
Sadly, his cancer diagnosis may or may not have sped up his timeline as the monarch, and now there’s talks that his son is already planning his ascension ceremony.
“The dynamics have shifted,” an insider told Us Weekly about the power struggle that’s taking place behind-the-scenes now that succession talks are in place. The source noted that Charles “has wanted to be the monarch for decades. Even though he’s battling cancer, he’s not letting that get in the way of his desire to be successful on the throne or a dynamic leader.”
“Like his father, he takes being a success in the royal role very seriously,” the source added of William, revealing that succession talks are treated with the utmost sensitivity inside the royal inner circle.
“There’s occasional tension,” the source said, before admitting that William has likely taken part in talks about transitioning titles and responsibilities, and learning about the state of government to ensure smooth transition.
Royal Staffers Began To Draft Succession Plans After King Charles’ Coronation, Different Insider Claims
Another insider went on to claim that discussion on William’s succession plans started when King Charles became King, though they admitted that Charles’ diagnosis fast-tracked it.
“The palace sprung into action,” the source told the outlet. “William and his team have agreed on what they will focus on at the start of his reign and funeral plans for his father.”
“For the most part, Charles is doing well,” the source said, but says the King himself has “some concerns, and he knows his reign will be up soon.”
