All My Children Spoilers: If you were a soap fan from the 70s onward, you’ll remember a certain ABC soap called All My Children, the starred the iconic Susan Luci as Erica Cane (how many times was she nominated for an emmy again?
How many times did Regis Philbin literally lose it on national TV after La Lucci lost? Yeah, we lost count too!), along with Kelly Ripa (from Live!) and hubby Mark Consuelos as Hailey Vaughan and Matteo Santos, Eva La Rue as Maria Santos, and countless other stars in the fictional town of Pine Valley.
Ah, those were the days! Sadly, the soap ended its TV broadcast days in 2011, and only briefly reappeared as a web series in 2013, along with the equally ill-fated One Life to Live.
Around four years ago we started hearing rumblings of a new series starting the old All My Children cast, originally Mark Consuelos and Kelly Ripa were going to put a new primetime soap called “Pine Valley” into production and focus on a young reporter with a secret agenda that threatened to bring the Pennsylvania town to it’s knees, but as quickly as the news came, it disappeared and we haven’t heard hide nor hair of the project since.
‘Tis a pity, really, AMC fans would have probably loved to see this project fully developed and maybe one day it will be, but this was pre-pandemic news, so that could have impacted things.
Not to fear though, because it looks like the Walt Disney company wants to continue using the intellectual property that is All My Children in the form of some TV movies.
Lifetime is the network interested in producing the series of movies, that would be fitting given the nature thing of the original series. (Alternately, it could also wind up on Disney Plus which would be an interesting turn of events indeed.)
Right now, there is no definite plans nailed down but one of the movies planned is holiday themed which gives the fans an idea of when the offering might appear, it would be interesting to see Christmas in Pine Valley after all these years!
Or perhaps a Friendsgiving episode. A cozy Halloween mystery? The possibilities are literally endless but they didn’t specify which holiday.
Well, Walt Willey reprised his role of Jackson Montgomery for a guest spot on General Hospital as recently as 2023, so, we know that at least that character still exists and there would be a good possibility of him showing back up since his role in the series was so iconic.
Another role we might see reprised is Tad Martin (Michael McKnight). Since Dixie (Cady McClain) was established that she died near the end of the series, it’s safe to say that we wouldn’t be seeing her return.
If Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos are involved in production they could return as their respective characters as well.
There is any number of directions the series could take. It looks like it might take awhile for these films to actually be seen though, seems they haven’t gotten much past the talking stage of planning yet.
