Golden Bachelor’s first couple Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist have officially split up and filed for divorce.

The shocking news was confirmed by the celeb couple on today’s episode of Good Morning America. Gerry and Theresa seemed like the real deal, and said their “I Do’s” on national television. What went wrong? Keep reading to find out, Golden Bachelor spoilers ahead!

When ABC announced the “Golden Bachelor” spinoff, viewers were skeptical. But, the senior citizen version of the reality TV dating series turning out to be a huge hit.

Fans tuned in every week to see which woman would get the dashing Gerry Turner’s rose. And, the finale on ABC featured a televised wedding and Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist’s super sweet “I Do’s.”

The Golden Bachelor Divorce

Today on Good Morning America, Gerry and Theresa confirmed that their wedded bliss was short lived and they have decided to throw in the towel.

Despite getting married, the couple was still living several states away from each other and neither one of them wanted to relocate and leave their families at the end of the day.

Gerry Turner explained on GMA, “Theresa and I have had a number of heart-to-heart conversations, and we’ve looked closely at our situation, our living situation and so forth, and we’ve kind of come to the conclusion mutually that it’s probably time for us to dissolve our marriage.”

Gerry and Theresa’s divorce and short marriage are a perfect example of the one down side of match-making for senior citizens. Once you are in your 70’s, you are established, you have a home, and you have kids and grandkids.

Unlike contestants on The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, Gerry and Theresa should have been dating in their own towns or at least states. No one in their 70’s wants to relocate and leave their families in their golden years.
