General Hospital (GH) spoilers and updates tease in an exclusive interview with Soaps She Knows, William DeVry opened up about a role that got away!

He was considered for a role on The Young And The Restless, of Tucker McCall; the role recently vacated by Trevor St. John.

Countless actors have experienced the disappointment of almost landing a coveted role, only to have it slip through their fingers. It’s always intriguing to discover the big names who were in the running for a specific part, only to be passed over in the end.

These missed opportunities make you wonder about the alternate paths that could have been taken, and what else they could have tried out for.

And now, we have another interesting addition to this list – William deVry from General Hospital was nearly cast in The Young and the Restless just a couple of years ago.

Yes, it’s true-he was called to audition for the part of Tucker McCall, a role recently vacated by a former One Life To Live star, Trevor St. John!

GH Spoilers – The Interviewer Asked If William William DeVry Had Been Contacted By Other Soaps

The interviewer inquired of deVry if he’d received offers from other soap operas to join their cast, suggesting Tucker McCall on Y & R could have been a good role for him. Bingo – deVry replied, “Honestly, I did audition for Tucker, and I was really confident that the role was mine,” he confessed; “the audition went really well.

He said he had several discussions with Michelle Stafford (Phyllis Summers YR, former Nina Reeves GH) and Jason Thompson (Billy Abbott YR, former Patrick Drake GH) before deciding to audition.

He truly believed it would have been a great fit, but as they say in the entertainment industry, the producers decided to go in a different direction. He went on to say he had met Trevor previously on “All My Children”.

It’s common knowledge now that Trevor St. John got the role, and deVry had nothing but good things to say about him, especially since they have a strong connection from AMC. “I was disappointed not to get the role, but I knew Trevor St. John was tough competition; he’s a fantastic actor and I’ve always admired him,” deVry mentioned. “He was on AMC on my first day as Michael Cambias-it was the day Michael met Kendall in Aspen; Trevor was the bartender.”

That scene is still available on the internet on You Tube.  St. John didn’t have to wait long for his big break, as he landed a role on One Life to Live just four months later.

GH Spoilers – William William DeVry Applauds Trevor

William applauded Trevor, who had a successful run on One Life to Live before returning to daytime in 2022. He then moved on to Young & Restless, where he did a fantastic job-after two years, he left the show, expressing gratitude for his time in Genoa City.

It’s interesting to note how deVry and St. John’s paths continually intersect in the acting world. Maybe it’s time for them to star in a series together? As for deVry, he believes that everything works out for a reason and doesn’t dwell on what could have been.
