Although he continues to see it as though he was in the right to go after Dex, he hates that his daughter — Kristina Corinthos Davis (Kate Mansi) — was a witness to the violent event.
Kristina could barely catch her breath as she tried to digest what she had just seen with her own two eyes.
Likewise, Sonny was left feeling like he could barely breathe too as he wondered whether he’d just lost his daughter forever. In the weeks ahead, he’ll certainly come to feel that way — and he may get weak enough on the heels of losing Kristina’s love to let someone else make him feel better again. Will that someone else be Carly Spencer (Laura Wright)?
Carly can tell that Sonny clearly behaves differently when he’s in front of other people — namely people who would relish him giving her a hard time.
On the few occasions she’s been to Sonny’s penthouse in recent months, Ava Jerome (Maura West) was present for their conversations.
During those exchanges, Sonny was hostile and treated Carly as though he didn’t care if she remained involved in his life at all. Their communications were only reliant upon discussions revolving around their children, as far as he was concerned.
But minutes after Kristina yelled in his face asking him to leave her alone, it was Carly who picked up the broken pieces of his heart and tried to console him. In those moments, he allowed her to.
Carly might think Sonny is just putting on a brave face in front of Ava, but she has no idea the extent to which Ava is complicit in his bad behavior.
Not only is Ava goading Sonny and egging him on to keep his family at arms’ length, but she’s well aware as to why he’s behaving so irrationally.
Carly was gobsmacked to hear the way Sonny was talking, as though he still didn’t regret publicly beating Dex and trying to kill him.
She still can’t wrap her head around why he thinks he can’t trust her or the rest of his family, and she really doesn’t understand why he has turned against Jason Morgan (Steve Burton).
Meanwhile, it all makes perfect sense to Ava — who knows he’s not being properly medicated and wants to keep it that way to suit her own agenda.
It’s hard to say how long this could go on with Ava milking things at the other end as Sonny begins to unravel. We don’t even know what her game plan is yet.
Is she just enjoying watching him push Carly and everyone else she loathes out of his life? Does she like being the only person he thinks he can trust?
Does she foresee him getting himself locked up so she can once again reclaim full custody of Avery Corinthos (Grace Scarola)? Regardless of what plans Ava may have in mind, we can trust that Carly isn’t really going to shut the door on her ex.
But will the pain of being shut out by Kristina be brutal enough for Sonny to cave and crawl back into Carly’s arms while Ava is waiting in the wings and ready to fill those shoes?
