Picking up the bullet casings and instructing Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) to head inside and find Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) to secure an alibi for his whereabouts, Michael segued right into acting like he’s done this a hundred times before.
It appears this apple hasn’t fallen as far from the tree as he thought. But when Sonny confesses to this murder to spare Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) from taking the fall for him, will he implicate Michael in the process?
Sonny must know that his confession will turn his life upside down, and those of everyone he cares about.
Most of the time, this guy seems to trust that Diane Miller (Carolyn Hennesy) is capable of the impossible and can get him off of any charge — even when he’s confessed to it though? Is that asking too much?
Diane is certainly not going to cosign his efforts, so it’s unlikely that he will give her any heads up about what he’s going to do before he does it. Then, naturally, he’ll expect her to get him out of it. But how?
On one hand, we could see Diane pulling out the insanity trump card and claiming that Sonny had recently been out of his right mind when his meds were tampered with and replaced with placebos. After all, it was Cates who commissioned that effort from the GH pharmacist.
Maybe it’ll fly. But Sonny also became aware of the issue and started seeking proper treatment well before the night he plugged Cates in the chest.
It’s more likely that we might actually see the fall of Sonny’s empire at this stage in the game. That tracks, given the rumors that Benard may be keen on retiring soon.
That leaves just one question. If Sonny is on his way out, who is on their way in? No doubt, Port Charles can’t do without crime. The docks. The murders. The federal agents. The PCPD.
None of it would be nearly as relevant if they weren’t always chasing the bad guy. So while putting Sonny away might feel like they’re cutting off the head of the hydra, we’d argue that someone else will probably step up the mantle and take over.
If that person isn’t Jason Morgan (Steve Burton), will it be Michael — who has more than proven himself in the last few years as being just as deceptive and self-serving as his pops?
Or will Michael go down with him as an accessory after the fact? Stay tuned for more GH news and spoilers just ahead to see how this shakes out.
