General Hospital (GH) spoilers tease Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) wasn’t at baby Irene Marie Davis Ashford’s funeral — and there is probably a good reason for that.

Still, we have to wonder why he would let petty dramas get in the way of him being there for his daughter and niece during this difficult time.

The chapel wasn’t exactly flush with love and support, but rather, limited family presence with one side missing altogether. What gives?

Sonny wasn’t the only one missing in action either, though he may be the most easy absence to explain. Where was Carly Spencer (Laura Wright)? Why wasn’t Natalia Ramirez (Eva LaRue) there? So many questions…

With Alison ‘Blaze’ Rogers (Jacqueline Grace Lopez) out of the picture for now, would Kristina even have wanted the reminder of her absence there staring her in the face? Probably not. And to be honest, Natalia knows how Kristina and her whole family feel about her.

After all, she’s the one who encouraged Blaze to step away from the hospital when Kristina and the baby were undergoing emergency surgery, as though Blaze wasn’t integrated with the family well enough to be there at that vulnerable and serious time.

If Blaze wasn’t, Natalia certainly isn’t, and we can understand why she wouldn’t have been there if Sonny wasn’t there to be a buffer.

Carly was Kristina’s stepmother for a long time, and she certainly cares about her well-being. She has always been gracious with and supportive of Kristina — whether it was about her coming out, her surrogacy for her sister, or other family dramas that played out over the years.

These days, GH paints Carly as being a lot more involved with Avery Corinthos (Grace Scarola) than her other former stepchildren, but Kristina wasn’t less to her.

We expected to see her by Josslyn ‘Joss’ Jacks’ (Eden McCoy) and Michael Corinthos’ (Chad Duell) side, but she was nowhere to be seen.

It’s possible that Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) gave Sonny the heads up that Ric Lansing (Rick Hearst) was coming into town to attend the funeral service and support Molly Lansing Davis (Kristen Vaganos), but it’s not exactly like Sonny to steer clear just because of Ric’s presence. If anything, he might enjoy getting under his insecure and jilted half-brother’s skin.

He certainly would understand any plea Alexis might have made to let bygones be bygones; a baby’s funeral isn’t the place for a war. But would he respect her wishes so much as to not attend when it’s his baby girl — Kristina Corinthos Davis (Kate Mansi) — who was also grieving? Did no one think she needed her dad that day?
