GH Spoilers: Steve Burton’s Emotional Return, Nearly Walked Off Set After Reading Letter

General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that Steve Burton is a daytime legend, especially to fans of the ABC sudser where he plays Jason Morgan. Burton has also appeared on CBS’s The Young and the Restless and Peacock’s Days of our Lives.

He’s been in the business for 30 years and recently shared an emotional moment in which he nearly left the set mid-scene. This is what he said on the April 9 podcast he shares with co-star Bradford Anderson (Damian Spinelli).

This year Steve returned to GH after appearing on DOOL. He left the show after declining to get ABC’s mandated Covid vaccine.

According to MSN, “In the March 27, 2024 episode of GH Jason gets an unforeseen surprise before his arraignment for shooting Dante (which he did not do) was difficult.” Steve said “That was a very hard scene for me to do. That was a tough one.”

The visitor to the interrogation room at the PCPD was Jason’s cousin Brook Lynn Quartermaine (Amanda Setton).

She gave him a letter from his mother Monica Quartermaine (Leslie Charleson) who believed he had been dead for over two years.

Monica’s letter read, “Jason, I believe in you” telling him she knew that he did not shoot Dante. Stoic Jason had tears in his eyes and Steve said those were real. “I was so emotional, I couldn’t even get it out.” In that moment he didn’t know what to do next, walk off set or call out “cut.”

He added “But I knew just to stay because it’s so hard to get back there. Once you shut it down, you’re like, ‘There’s no going back there.’ The next take is not going to be the same.”

Bradley asked him if the prop letter was handwritten or typed and Steve said it was handwritten. This led to a discussion about the GH prop team “who specializes in different styles of handwriting and think about each characters’ penmanship.”

Bradley said of Monica “She’s a doctor, so it might be, like, chicken scratch.” Burton said “It could be, I have chicken scratch so I mean who knows.”
