Diane genuinely thought Sonny might have been behind the attempt on Jason Morgan’s (Steve Burton) life. Having to see himself through Diane’s eyes in that moment was painful for him because deep down, Sonny doesn’t really want his former best friend dead.
He’s heartbroken and feels betrayed by Jason, and he’s not thinking clearly due to being improperly medicated and unaware of it. But Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) calls it like she sees it and she knows Sonny well enough to insist he doesn’t want things to be this way. It looks like she’s right.
The look on Sonny’s face was clear when Diane prodded for more information on his potential involvement in the shooting at Corinthos Coffee. He was offended that she would even think he would take action against Jason in that way.
Admittedly, this is a bit comical and even nonsensical, because Sonny has already leveraged looming threats of violence toward his former brother-in-arms. It’s not that much of a leap to think he acted on those threats?
Still, he glanced back at Diane as though he thought she knew him better than that, and he couldn’t wait to get to Carly’s place to let her know what happened and make sure she knew he had nothing to do with it. It was important to him that she not get the wrong idea too.
Sonny is in a rather fragile state and everyone can see it. It’s been difficult to pinpoint the cause of his erratic behavior, especially since he has insisted he’s taking his medication — not to mention the lengths Carly went to just to prove such to herself by going through his medicine cabinet.
If there are further attacks on Jason — or if he actually ends up harmed — Sonny may not find it easy to process that someone is clearly setting him up to take the fall.
Moreover, it’ll pain him to think anyone suspects that he’s behind it. Could another breakdown be waiting in the wings for Sonny?
On the other hand, the sooner Police Commissioner Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) and Jason can work together to trap Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) and Pikeman, the sooner Jason will be able to prove himself as an asset and supporter of Sonny.
Likewise, he’ll allegedly be free from the chains of being an FBI informant. Will it all really be that easy, or are we staring at a much longer road ahead for Jason being bound to the FBI and Sonny being convinced he’s the enemy?
Will Diane and Carly change their position on believing Sonny if the attacks on Jason keep coming? Stay tuned for more GH news and spoilers to find out.
